Riptide GP2 is an easy and fast 1,000 Gamerscore. There are no online multi-player achievements, and only one achievement has to be done outside of career mode. This game is pretty standard as far as racing games go. You start out with low-tier races with a weak vehicle, and as you play, you earn money to upgrade your ride and gain access to harder races with larger money payouts. There are 12 maps total in the game (some of which are simply backwards versions of a previous map), and career mode has 4 different race types that you will have to play.
Race: the standard 8 player race. 2-3 laps around the map
Hide ads
Elimination: 8 player race where every 15 seconds the player in last place is eliminated.
Hot lap: you get one timed lap around the map.
Freestyle: you get 2 minutes to race around the map hitting ramps and doing tricks to earn as many points as you can.
First thing you will be doing is playing career mode. This is where 99% of your time will be spent. You COULD go on ahead and get the hidden Easter egg achievement out of the way, but doing this last will allow you to buy new rides and get them upgraded first. The extra handling will help you out later in obtaining the egg. It is highly recommended that all random achievements that CAN be done in career mode be done in career mode, because you will be spending a good amount of time replaying levels anyway to obtain money. The later rides in the game can get quite expensive. Luckily, though, you only need to buy 8 out of the 9 jets in the game, so you can skip the most expensive one (it even has lower stats than the jet directly before it).
To make your path towards getting the full 1,000 points as easy and less time consuming as possible, keep these tips in mind...
1) You will most likely not end up racing with every jet. In fact, only 3-4 are even worth your time. It's always worth the effort to save your money when attempting to purchase a new jets to get the one you want rather than buying what's next and being stuck with that for a time. The Striker, Lancer, and Manta are, in my opinion, the only jets you need in the game. The Manta actually has better stats when fully upgraded than the most expensive jet in the game has.
2) When unlocking skills when you level up, you should spend the first few points on new tricks and always grab the Agility skills as soon as they become available. Upgrading your boost skill early is mostly pointless, because you only get 1/4 of a second added to your boost meter, and buying a higher-tier trick will give you a greater amount of boost for doing the trick than the small amount you would have gotten from the boost skill. Take either the Corkscrew or Back Scratcher skill at level 8, and save your skill points to buy the Mad Monkey or Jungle Gym at level 10. These are the easiest to perform level 10 tricks, and they net you the greatest amount of boost for races in the game. They are also worth the most points in freestyle.
3) When going for hot lap speed runs, it is quite tempting to hit every ramp to do lots of tricks to keep your boost up. I have found that skipping half the ramps in the lap helps you out quite a bit as you get to keep riding straight without having to veer off to hit a ramp, and also, you tend to bounce when you land a trick from a ramp, which slows you down a bit. Any ramp that immediately follows a curve, pay no attention to. If you happen to hit it, great. If not, leave it be as you do not need them all. Also, if you use your boost directly before hitting a ramp, you will get more air time and be able to perform more complicated tricks. Sometimes when boosting off of a ramp, you will bounce so high when landing on normal water that you can perform another basic trick off the bounce.
Be prepared to replay the same 12 levels over and over again. This game is quite fun, but it can be a little annoying with only a few soundtrack songs repeating so often, and half of the maps are just reverse versions of previous maps you have already played.
You will start out on the Beginner's Luck group of races. Your starting jet can easily get you 3 stars on all 3 races, but you may have trouble getting 1st place in the hot lap event before you upgrade your jet. Start the first race, and try your best to get 1st place. If you manage to finish 1st, you will net the following achievement...

Keep racing and earning money until you have at least $1,000. Once you have the money, head to the garage, and upgrade at least 1 stat for your jet. The 4 stats you can upgrade are boost, handling, top speed, and acceleration. Upgrading at least one of these stats will net you...

You upgraded a Hydro Jet!

You will want to fully upgrade at least one of your jets as you play through the game. The starting jet is the cheapest jet to get fully upgraded. It costs $1,000 for level 1 upgrades, $3,000 for level 2, $6,000 for level 3, and $15,000 for each level 4 upgrade. After you have upgraded all 4 stats to their max level, you will have spent a total of $100,000 and unlocked...

At this point, the game gets very repetitious. Race to get money, use money to upgrade your jet, use upgraded jet to get better times/scores and greater pools of money. After you have fully upgraded your starting jet, it will be time to buy a new one. My suggestion is to skip the first few jets, and save up a little more to buy the Lancer. It costs $100,000 but at full upgrades, it has enough power to 3 star almost every race in the game. After purchasing whichever jet you desire, you will obtain...

Sometime around the time you start upgrading your second jet, you should be at least level 10 and earning 2 skill points per level instead of the 1 point per level you started off getting. Level 10 tricks cost 4 skill points to unlock and have a prerequisite trick in the level 5 list that much be purchased first. There are only 3 level 5 tricks that have level 10 counterparts, so you must purchase either "corkscrew", "back scratcher", or "take that" to unlock its level 10 counterpart.

Now that I have mentioned your player level, you will at sometime during the course of the game unlock an achievement for obtaining level 20. You get more experience points for better finishes in races, but even if you do horribly, you will still gain enough experience to gain levels fairly often. Unless you obtain 1st place in nearly every race you play the first time playing them, you will obtain this way before finishing the career mode. If you DO however finish the career mode and are below level 20, just keep repeating the final few races of the game to grind out the experience you need to obtain the following...

During this level/money grind, there are 3 achievements that you will be able to obtain as you hit the various maps. The first of which will task you with jumping for 200 meters. The earliest you can obtain this is during the Wave Rider Cup circuit. There is a hot lap race on a map called "High Fliers". At the end of this map is a huge jump up in the sky. If you hit this ramp with full boost, you will easily clear 200 Meters.
The next in-game achievement is for crashing your jet and landing across the finish line. There are a lot of maps that have ramps at the end of the lap. Launch off a ramp and do a trick that you know you will not land, and you will crash. If you have enough speed, your momentum will carry you across the finish line.

For the final in-game achievement, you need to crash into a bridge. Easily done if you go up a ramp at low speed. There are multiple maps that have bridges that you can crash into. This video shows how to easily get this done.

When you hit the third circuit of races, you will start to see freestyle events. There are 4 achievements tied to freestyle, and they basically boil down to getting 1st place in all 10. There are 10 freestyle races total, and the earliest you can obtain this is during the Ultimate Cup circuit (penultimate circuit) Get 1,000, 1,500, and 2,000 points in a freestyle race, and 3 star all 10 for the following achievements... (the 10th freestyle race requires 2,000 for first place anyway).

You got at least 1000 points in a Freestyle event!
Stunt Expert

The next two achievements you will earn are for obtaining 3 stars in every hot lap and elimination race. There are 11 elimination events and 11 hot lap events. Both have their final race in the penultimate circuit entitled Ultimate Cup.

The next achievement you will earn is for obtaining 1st place in all of the remaining races. There are 35 races total, and the final circuit contains 12 races with no elimination, hot lap, or freestyle events. You are simply tasked with winning all 12 races against the hardest competition yet. If at this point you have a fully upgraded Manta jet, these races are actually much easier than obtaining the 3 star achievements for the hot lap and freestyle events. The Manta just flies by most other racers, and as long as you don't crash, it will not be difficult to breeze by these final 12 maps.
Pro Racer
You earned 3 stars in every Race!

The final 3 career specific achievements I mention last, because it is nearly impossible to get these without obtaining all others. The final races have a super high star requirement in order to unlock, and you will need to 3 star around 90% or more of the previous levels just to keep unlocking the next in order to progress. Once you have obtained 3 stars in all events of the career mode, you will have earned the following...
Amateur
You got 1 star in all Career events!
Professional
You got 2 stars in all Career events!
Champion
You got 3 stars in all Career events!

There is one remaining achievement in the game. For this, you have to back out of career mode and head into VR challenge. There is a hidden Easter egg on the map "Harbor Master". For this, you have to run into an actual Easter Egg that is a little outside the map towards the beginning hidden behind a few ships.
TA user Skycaptin5 has a great video solution for this...
