Is Arizona still paying PUA benefits? ›

Applying for Unemployment Insurance

Effective with the week ending 9/4/2021; the Federally funded Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) program is ending and, as of 10/8/2021, no new PUA claims can be established.

If the claims office determines that the last employer justifiably discharged the claimant for misconduct, or that the claimant quit the last employer without good cause in connection with the work, benefits will be denied for as long as he/she is currently unemployed.

To restart the registration/claim wizard, simply select Unemployment Services>File a Claim from the left navigation menu.

In the example shown below, the first week of unemployment on a newly established benefit year is a waiting week *. If there are no issues established on your claim, you can expect your first benefit payment** (normally after you've filed your second weekly claim) within approximately 10 business days.

The Arizona unemployment department has a system for determining how much your weekly unemployment payment amount will be. People who are eligible for unemployment in Arizona will receive a weekly payment amount between $200 and $320. The maximum length of Arizona unemployment benefits is 24 weeks.

Be prepared for your employer to deny everything. If you were fired from work, your former employer must prove that s/he was justified in dismissing you because of misconduct, which will disqualify you from receiving benefits.

Other employees may quit because they have to take care of a child or parent, become the victim of domestic violence, or have to move because their spouse got a new job. Under these circumstances, employees may be eligible for UC benefits.
